

BTEC Advanced Professional Diploma Neighourhood Justice
Introduction
This specialist award is the culmination of the national Anti-Social Behaviour and Neighbourhood Justice BTEC Programme and an opportunity for the student to develop new and creative approaches that extend or redefine existing knowledge or professional practice in this area. It is appropriate for leading experts or practitioners in the field or those aspiring to achieve this level.
Overview
The course covers key aspects of neighbourhood justice, including the exchange of personal data, neighbourhood nuisance legislative powers, the role of a senior investigating officer and restorative justice approaches.
This qualification also includes a 5 day study visit to New York, USA hosted by our partners at the Centre for Court Innovation.

Qualification Structure
The following units can be take in any order. This includes the study visit.
This courses consists of 220 hours of learning, made up as follows:
Unit 01 - Information and data sharing -10 hours
Unit 02 - Anti Social Behaviour Tools and Legislative powers -10 hours
Unit 03 - Case working, statements and note taking - 10 hours
Unit 04 - Investigation and evidence gathering - 10 hours
Unit 05 - Giving evidence in HM Courts - 10 hours
Unit 06 - Supervision of Case workers - 40 hours
Unit 07 - Restorative Justice Approaches - 40 hours
Unit 08 - Field Study trip to New York, USA. - 50 hours
- Including supervised visits to:
- The Bronx Defenders
- Bronx District Court
- Red Hook Community Court, Brooklyn
- Manhattan Mid-Town Community Court
- Plus meetings with the following agencies:
- New York Police Department
- New York City Housing
- Centre for Court Innovation
- Public Defenders Office
- District Attorneys Office
Dissertation 4 Parts (6,000 words) 40 hours
- Record and report on the study visit- 10 hours (1500 words)
- Analyse and research what happens locally - 10 hours (1500 words)
- Compare and contrast UK / US - 10 hours (1500 words)
- Strategically recommend / conclude - 10 hours (1500 words)
On completion of all units the candidate will be awarded the BTEC Level 7 Advanced Professional Diploma in Neighbourhood Justice.
Who should enrol
There are no entry or learning requirements for this qualification.
This qualification is for candidates from any background with a higher level of interest in the field of Neighbourhood Justice and all of its components. This qualification level is specifically intended to allow candidates to display mastery of a complex and specialised area of knowledge and skills, employing advanced skills to conduct research, or advanced technical or professional activity, accepting accountability for related decision making including use of supervision.

Learning Outcomes
This qualification is a BTEC Level 7 learning accredited at this level will reflect the ability to:
Make a significant and/original contribution to a specialised field of inquiry demonstrating a command of methodological issues and engaging in critical dialogue with peers; accepting full accountability for outcomes.

Please note that a candidate may need to attend some units during future terms that have as yet been announced. We aim to run a minimum of three terms each year.
